How To Get Out Of A Style Rut

Many of us are familiar with a style rut: life gets hectic, you get busy and you stop caring so much about the clothes you’re wearing everyday. But looking good and wearing clothes you love is a big part of making yourself feel good.

If you’ve found yourself in a style rut and you want to break out of it, here are some easy tips that will get you on the road to chic, fashionable and feeling confident again:

1. There is no such thing as “too old” to look good

There are so many misconceptions out there that correlate looking good with being young. The truth is that you can look good at any age, whether you’re 20 or 90. The most important thing to consider about whether you should wear something is whether you feel good in it and if the clothing fits. No matter what age you are, you can always add style and personality to your outfits in whatever way feels right to you.

2. Don’t let your size hold you back

Throughout our lives, many of us go through changes with our bodies. And the fact is, bodies are different and come in all shapes and sizes. Just because you don’t fit into the definition of “slim”, doesn’t mean that you can’t wear fashionable clothes! If a trend doesn’t make you feel good because it accentuates aspects of your body that you don’t want to show off, try something else! There are so many different ways to dress for your body shape that you can find clothing that will accentuate your favourite parts so you feel your best every day.

3. You have to get to know yourself again

Some of us experience style ruts that can last years, or even decades. If you find yourself in this situation, you may have forgotten what your personal style and tastes are, and consider yourself lacking in style. All you need to do is invest the time in yourself to rediscover clothes, colours, and accessories that speak to you!

4. There’s always time for shopping

Life gets busy. Between work, children, friends, family, volunteering, special events and vacations (and the list goes on), one of the biggest reasons people experience style ruts is because they don’t have the time to shop for new clothes. At this point, it’s all about prioritizing. While there are things in your life that require your attention and are important to you, you should make yourself a priority from time to time as well. You don’t have to spend hours every week shopping, but setting aside some time every so often can have a big impact on your emotional health.
